The Lady at the End of the Leash

November 09, 2017

Long-time supporter and volunteer, Jessie Garth, has spent the past few years writing about her experience raising Guide Dog puppy ‘Ella’.

Searching for more out life back in 1999, Jessie was inspired by a newspaper article advertising the need for Puppy Raisers and leapt at the chance to help prepare a gorgeous Guide Dog puppy for training.

As Jessie and her husband realised the wider significance of their commitment to raising ‘Ella’, they learnt to break their routine and enjoy a paw-some new life filled with love, joy and laughter.

‘Ella’ even played a special role in helping Jessie’s grandchildren grow up. They learnt to be proud walking by ‘Ella’s’ side when they were out in the community and shared the roles and responsibilities of her training, teaching them as much as they taught her.

After raising ‘Ella’, Jessie went on to raise several other puppies and four became working Guide Dogs. Her book is a testament to her passion for Guide Dogs Queensland and the life-changing work that our promising pups go on to do.
