PAWGUST helps forge community connections

A group of university students is hitting the pavement this August to promote wellbeing and raise vital funds for Guide Dogs through PAWGUST.

The group, OUT Pet Lovers Society, formed in February and has had to connect mostly online over the past few months, so PAWGUST provides a chance for them to come together in a new way.

Back for its third year, PAWGUST challenges people to walk their dogs for 30 minutes a day for 30 days in August to raise vital funds to support people living with vision loss and blindness.

“Our group is all about improving wellbeing, and walking is shown to do that. Some people don’t have dogs of their own but they can still contribute and feel a part of something through PAWGUST,” Club President Rebecca said.

“We already had a couple of connections with Guide Dogs and we wanted to participate in an event to make our group
feel like a community while also supporting Guide Dogs,” she said.

It costs $50,000 to breed, raise and train a guide dog and the PAWGUST campaign is vital in raising the much needed funds to train future guide dogs.

It’s incredible supporters like these that make it possible to offer life-changing services to people who have with vision loss and blindness.
