Bridge to Brisbane: Lay’s Journey
In the world of athletic challenges, Bridge to Brisbane is a highlight, attracting many people locally and across the states. This year, one participant stands out not just for her commitment to running but for her inspiring journey with low vision. Lay, a dedicated Client from Brisbane, is gearing up to make her mark on this 10km challenge, proving that determination and passion can overcome any obstacle.
Lay has been a Client of Guide Dogs Queensland for approximately two years, and her experience has been nothing short of transformative. “I have enjoyed making new friends and learning new skills at Guide Dogs,” Lay shares. Her engagement with Guide Dogs Queensland has not only enriched her life but also reinforced her commitment to participating in activities that Guide Dogs Queensland facilitates. Her enthusiasm for remaining active and learning new skills has paved the way for her current endeavour.
This year, Lay is stepping out of her comfort zone to participate in Bridge to Brisbane 10km run. “I enjoy being active and exercising,” she explains. “I’ve never been a charity runner, and I thought this is a golden opportunity to be able to raise funds while being active.” Lay’s participation is not just a personal challenge but also a chance to support a cause close to her heart.
The impact of donations raised through events like Bridge to Brisbane is significant. For individuals like Lay, these funds are crucial. “I am thankful for the donations given to Guide Dogs Queensland,” she says. “It is challenging for people with low vision or blindness to learn new skills alongside those with good vision. The funds raised can provide an environment where people like me who have vision loss, can feel safe as they participate in activities.”
Lay’s message to those considering supporting Guide Dogs Queensland through this event is one of gratitude and encouragement. “Thank you for your generosity,” she states. “Your donation, big or small, will make a difference to people with low vision or blindness. It allows us to connect with the community, build our confidence, and learn new skills.”
Lay’s journey to Bridge to Brisbane is a testament to the fact that with the right support and determination, remarkable achievements are possible regardless of physical limitations. Her story not only inspires but also highlights the incredible work of the Guide Dogs Queensland community in supporting individuals with low vision or blindness.
We thank Lay for bringing us along on her journey and for demonstrating that the spirit of perseverance can indeed bridge any gap.
