A glamorous Girls’ Night
Our Client Residence was recently overtaken by some wonderful young women ready to learn some new skills to take on the world!
We were excited to welcome six young women aged between 19 and 26 from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Townsville for our Better Living Program with a twist.
The Better Living Program helps our clients address the challenges that often accompany living with a vision impairment and provides an opportunity for them to meet others who understand their situation.
On this program, the young women were involved in fun and engaging activities to give them an opportunity to bond with and learn from one another.
The highlight of the program was the Girls’ Night, which replicated an experience where the girls might want to get dressed up and apply makeup before needing to use appropriate table etiquette and interacting with new people.
Each girl had their hair and makeup done and were given advice about what products to use. They also shared tips and tricks about how to avoid eye shadow disasters, clown looking cheekbones and wonky lipstick lines.
While they were getting ready, Orientation and Mobility Specialist Mary also spoke about fine dining, table etiquette and planning for an evening out. Once all the girls felt fully prepped and pampered, they enjoyed a three course silver service style menu, before also taking part in some karaoke to relax and unwind.
The girls appreciated the opportunity to learn from the experiences and challenges faced by others in the group and the adjustments each of them has made to adapt to life as a vision impaired young woman.
