Low Vision Clinic Returning in 2026
Guide Dogs Queensland is delighted to announce the return of the Low Vision Clinic in 2026, following a highly successful pilot program in 2025 delivered in partnership with the QUT Optometry Health Clinic at our Bald Hills campus.
The clinic provides a full optometry service for people living with low vision, including a comprehensive eye examination and a written optometry report for personal records and ongoing care. Regular eye checks play an important role in maintaining eye health, and the clinic offers a supportive, accessible environment tailored to the needs of people with low vision or blindness.
An important part of the clinic’s success is the opportunity it provides for final year QUT Optometry students to gain hands on experience working with clients with low vision. All students are supervised onsite by a qualified Optometrist, with additional support from Guide Dogs Queensland practitioners.
Client Sue Bolton-Wood shared her experience of attending the clinic, saying,
“This is a valuable service. The students are lovely and very accommodating. I like being able to help other people understand varying levels of vision and to support students to become more confident working with clients like us.”

QUT Optometry students also reflected on the experience, noting that delivering the clinic at Guide Dogs Queensland created a welcoming and patient friendly environment. Students shared that the clinic helped them better understand the independence of clients with low vision and blindness, and the positive impact of Guide Dogs Queensland services.
The Low Vision Clinic is open to people with low vision and supports both existing and new Guide Dogs Queensland clients.
Further information about clinic dates, bookings and eligibility for the 2026 program will be shared closer to launch.
