Advocating for you!
Have you ever wondered who, at a national level, is keeping across government disability reforms, NDIS changes and advocating for Australians who have low vision or blindness through the lens of a Guide Dogs Client?
The answer is the Guide Dogs Australia Policy and Advocacy team.
Four state-based guide dogs organisations have come together under the banner of Guide Dogs Australia, so when it comes to representing the voice of these states to the commonwealth government, they speak with a united voice through Guide Dogs Australia.
Is my state Guide Dogs organisation part of this group? YES! Queensland is one of these four states and are involved in all advocacy work not only at a state level but within this national group.
The Guide Dogs Australia Policy and Advocacy team is working on a number of projects including representing the Guide Dog community in important reforms such as disability transport standards, including taxis and rideshares and the aviation white paper, the outcomes from the Disability Royal Commission, planning for the lead up to the next federal election and much more.
Coming soon: a policy and advocacy hub, and ways the community can participate together to eliminate barriers. We are looking forward to how we can listen and talk more directly about the national systemic challenges you need us to be working on. However in the meantime, we would love to hear from our Queensland clients on what is important to you in the advocacy space. If you have a focus you would like us to be advocating for on your behalf, please email through your enquiry to advocacy@gdq.com.au and let us know what’s important to you.
