Vision Impaired Sunny Coasters
Are you or is someone you know looking to meet like-minded people and socialise in an inclusive, fun-filled environment on the Sunshine Coast?
The Vision impaired Sunny Coasters Meetup Group encourages the community to take part in, and organise events with people who share common interests. Aimed at encouraging inclusivity, the group is open to people with low or no vision as well as their family, friends and carers.
The group meets up every couple of months to enjoy regular activities from indoor rock-climbing to defensive driving or a nice dinner out.
Group organiser, Darryl Munck, said alongside coordinating larger events, smaller Meetup platforms run by members provide the opportunity for each member to ‘host’ their own event.
“On the Meetup platform, group members can post event ideas and others can choose to go along. For example, on Friday we went to a bowls club and there was a live band.” Darryl said.
The Meetup group is aimed at connecting individuals who share common interests and some of the popular themes include sports, entertainment and creative activities.
Group members recently took part in both the Mooloolaba and Noosa triathlons, and attended a drive day at Gympie where members had the chance to get behind the wheel of a vehicle at a Defensive Driving Centre.
“We had six blind people in vehicles and we were doing things like emergency stops at 80km an hour.” Darryl said.
