Meet the youngest Guide Dog pups – with a special job ahead of them, and special names to match.
Thank you for your name suggestions for our ‘D’ litter. From hundreds of name suggestions, the final nine names have now been given to these adorable pups, with a special nod to rural towns and a few special Queenslanders.
Meet the 'D' litter!
Daina: A nod to the Daintree Rainforest. Daintree was one of the most common suggestions, along with variations of Daina and Dain.
Dottie: Dottie is named after Dotswood, a rural town in the Charters Towers region. Dottie was a popular suggestion, as well as Dot.
Dory: This clever suggestion was to represent the Great Barrier Reef and the array of species that call it home. Named after the fish made famous by the Nemo movie.
Dolly: Dolly was one of the most popular suggestions for a little girl, named in honour of Dolly Everett, a Queensland schoolgirl who has become the face of an anti-bullying movement.
Dalby: Dalby draws her name from the rural town in the Western Downs. Dalby is an important heart of Queensland's agricultural community, producing cotton, wheat, sorghum, sunflowers and cattle.
Daphne: The name Daphne was suggested multiple times - honouring two special women from Queensland. Daphne the pup is named in honour of sculptor Daphne Mayo, and hockey legend Daphne Pirie.
Dawson: The Dawson River in Central Queensland was a popular inspiration for one of the three male pups, and a beautiful name for the only yellow male in the litter.
Davey: A very special name for one of our male pups, named in honour of Senior Constable Dave Masters, who was tragically killed on duty in June 2021. Dave's family thanked the community for choosing to honour Dave in this way.
Drover: It was a battle between 'Drover' and 'Dozer' - with both names paying tribute to the Queenslanders living in the bush.
In appreciation for the farmers who have battled through droughts and floods in recent years, Drover was chosen as the final name.
