Updates from the Advocacy and Access Team

Physical accessibility

The Advocacy Team has recently met with Brisbane City Council to discuss new capital works happening around the George Street end of Queen Street Mall. Together we reviewed and consulted on the proposed temporary Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (the braille trail) detour to make sure it will minimise the impact on wayfinding and navigation caused by the construction. More details to come when work gets closer to starting.

The Advocacy Team has also attended several major events in the disability space. Queenslanders with Disability Network had their annual State Disability Conference where we were proud to receive a shoutout of our Airport to Arena activation. We have also attended their Games Readiness report about hotel and transport accessibility. The report showed there is a significant accessibility gap in accommodation and public transport across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns. We will be using its findings to help our advocacy to ensure the 2032 Games leave long term accessibility benefits.
