Self-defence makes an impact

May 07, 2019

Are you interested in signing up for the next round of self-defence classes?

With a great response to our first round, we’re very excited to get back into the swing of things on May 25.

To give you a little insight into the classes, we had a chat to some of our wonderful attendees to see how they felt about the program so far.

For Virginia, the self-defence classes have given her an opportunity to try something different and build her confidence.

“I found the self-defence to be much better than my pilates class because it’s more enjoyable and you actually get your heart rate up!” Virginia said.

Another member of the class mentioned how the program has helped them to feel more independent while they’re out in public.

“I have achieved my objectives of building the confidence I need to go out by myself and be able to handle situations.” They said.

Not only do these classes help to increase confidence and independence, they’re also a great way to get active and socialise with the community.

In the class, Kyushin Ryu School of Jujitsu have been teaching strategies that can be applied if someone is feeling endangered while out in their community.

They’ve been demonstrating techniques such as how to takedown or throw an assailant and how to identify which areas to target when defending yourself.

While the self-defence classes are Virginia’s favourite, she has also been attending and enjoying the cooking classes too and is eager to sign up for the next block of both classes in May.

“The long break between the blocks is good because you can get really pumped up for the next round.” Virginia said.

If you’re interested in either of these classes or you would like to find out more about some of the other exciting learning opportunities we offer, you can contact our friendly team at clients@guidedogsqld.com.au or call 3500 9060.
