Kids playgroup is back!

February 20, 2024

We are excited to announce our playgroup for children aged 0-5 years with low vision or blindness is making a comeback to our Bald Hills campus in Brisbane!

Supporting children with low vision or blindness and their caregivers through play, our welcoming playgroup is designed to stimulate your child’s multi-sensory development while providing an opportunity to meet new friends.

Guide Dogs Psychologist, Annika, said the playgroup was a great opportunity for parents and carers to meet others who share a similar experience.

“What we love most about our playgroup is the opportunity for parents and caregivers to connect with others in a safe environment where you can share information and learn from each other’s experiences,” said Annika.

“One of our Guide Dogs health practitioners will always be present during the playgroup to answer any questions caregivers might have and to offer support,” she said.

This year, our playgroup is supported by PlayConnect+ to deliver a ‘sing and grow’ music session as part of the program of activities.

“We are very fortunate to have an organisation like PlayConnect+ facilitate some fun, musical activities for the children to enjoy, including experimenting with musical instruments and lots of singing,” said Annika.

“There will also be a range of toys and games for the children to enjoy in both indoor and outdoor settings, with ample opportunity for free play and exploration,” she said.

Parents and caregivers of children with low or no vision are welcome to bring their own morning tea, with light refreshments provided by Guide Dogs.

Playgroup will run every Thursday morning from 9:30am to 11:00am at Bald Hills. The cost is $5 per family, per week. Families are welcome to come on a casual basis whenever it suits, we just ask families and caregivers to RSVP ahead of each session so our team can plan appropriately for the number of people. Siblings of children with low or no vision are also welcome!

To RSVP, please email Annika Heidel at clients@guidedogsqld.com.au or phone (07) 3500 9060 if you have any questions.
