About the Scholarships.
Orientation & Mobility Scholarships Details.
The Scholarships will be awarded to the selected applicants upon successful enrolment as a full-time student to complete a one-year Graduate Diploma in Orientation and Mobility at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) during 2022.
The value of each Scholarship is up to $30,000 as payment towards program fees.
The Scholarship Holders will be supported to undertake work-integrated learning topics with Guide Dogs Queensland and graduates may be offered future employment opportunities.
About the course.
Graduate Diploma in Orientation and Mobility at University of NSW.
The Graduate Diploma in Orientation and Mobility is a one-year Graduate Diploma offered by the UNSW.
This course provides graduates with the specialised knowledge and practical experience required for them to operate as an industry certified Orientation and Mobility specialist, able to provide services to clients with low vision or blindness.

The role of an Orientation and Mobility Instructor at Guide Dogs Queensland is essential to supporting clients to move safely and independently through their world. All of our services are tailored to meet the individual goals of our clients and include the assessment and implementation of programs in home, community, and healthcare settings.
Who should apply?
What we are looking for in our applicants.
You will:
- Be a Queensland resident.
- Have completed a degree in either Nursing, Education, Human Movement, Disability, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Social Work, Vision Science or a similarly related field.
You should have:
- An undergraduate qualification in one of the fields mentioned above.
- A genuine interest in working with people of all ages living with low vision or blindness.
- A person-centered approach to work with the ability to build rapport with people from a range of backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Sound problem-solving abilities.
- High self-motivation and be goal-orientated.
