Lindsay was diagnosed two years ago with a condition that causes the loss of his central vision. While coming to terms with his changing vision, Guide Dogs was there enabling him to learn skills that help improve his independence.

There’s no young boy anywhere in the world that doesn’t want to be outdoors playing with his mates. And for Lindsay, it’s especially important to be outdoors helping his dad on the farm.

Because you continue to support Guide Dogs, Lindsay was able to attend a Kids’ Mobility Camp last year and experience a moment that brought a tear to all of our eyes.

Lindsay made a friend almost instantly. When his mate started using a white cane to get around, Lindsay decided to also give it a go. He had been shy or reluctant to try a white cane before now – not wanting to stand out. But seeing his new friend use the cane made it seem less daunting.

Lindsay’s mum, Stacey, was overwhelmed by just how positive the Mobility Camp had been for her young son.

“The whole camp was such a positive experience,” Stacey said. “But, seeing Lindsay pick up the cane and give it a go was just incredible. It was a last-minute thing because the other kids were using their canes, but he came up to me straight away afterwards and told me he was keen to learn more about how to use the white cane. That was pretty special.”
