Guiding Change: Ensuring Inclusion in Queensland’s Disability Reform

As a Peak Body representative and leading advocate for the low vision and blind community, Guide Dogs Queensland is well-positioned to contribute valuable insights to the Co-Design Hub and Disability Reform Implementation Stakeholder Committee, with 65 years of experience within this sector. Our involvement will ensure the perspectives of people with low vision or blindness are actively considered in Queensland’s disability reform and co-design efforts.
About the Disability Reform Implementation Stakeholder Committee (DRISC)
QDN was engaged to develop the Queensland Disability Stakeholder Engagement and Co-Design Strategy (Strategy) as a priority action of the Queensland Disability Reform Framework. The Queensland Disability Reform Framework was designed as an initial framework for disability reform in Queensland, including a response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission) and as an initial response to the Independent Review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS Review). The Strategy establishes structures to put people with disability and stakeholders at the heart of reform processes through co-design. QDN is leading the implementation of the Strategy, including the establishment of this new Committee.

About the Queensland Disability Engagement and Co-Design Hub Strategy
QDN is leading the implementation of the Queensland Disability Stakeholder Engagement and Co-Design Strategy, a key action under the Queensland Disability Reform Framework. The Strategy was developed in response to the Disability Royal Commission and the NDIS Review, ensuring people with disability and stakeholders are at the heart of reform through co-design. QDN have invited people with disability, their families, carers and sector representatives to join the QDN Engagement and Co-Design Hub Team—a space for collaboration through co-design labs, workshops, and consultations—to help shape policies, programs, and engagement processes that drive real change.
